Last week, La Aurora Cigars announced they are adding a 6 x 54 limited production box-press vitola as a line extension to both their Guillermo Leon Signature and Fernando Leon Family Reserve lines.  The line extensions will debut at the 2013 IPCPR in Las Vegas.  First information on this announcement was reported in the 6/25/13 Cigar Insider and on Cigar Aficionado.

The packaging of these cigars is following an on-going trend we are seeing in the cigar industry – namely packaging two blends in a single box.  The box-press Guillermo Leon and Fernando Leon cigars will be packaged together in a box of 16 cigars – with 8 cigars of each blend.  Production is being limited to 1,000 boxes for a total of 8,000 cigars in each blend.

The Guillermo Leon Signature line made its debut three years ago. The cigar gets its name from La Aurora Cigars’ president, Guillermo Leon. The Guillermo Leon Signature finished as our #25 Cigar for 2010.

The Fernando Leon Family Reserve is named for the late Don Fernando Leon, who was the father Guillermo Leon. Fernando Leon also served as the head of La Aurora Cigars. The story behind the cigar is that Fernando Leon had a cigar that was his own personal blend.  The cigar was originally a corona vitola and he would share this with the people that were closest to him.   The Family Reserve is based on that blend.

The box-press vitolas mark the first box-press cigars from the La Aurora Cigars factory – which is based in the Dominican Republic.  For completeness we include blend information as well as all of the vitolas made in these lines.
