Capadura Cigars:
808, 848, 898 Extra Ligero (Top to Bottom)

At the 2013 IPCPR Trade Show, we paid a visit to the Capadura Cigars to learn a little about their cigars. Capadura Cigars is what can be considered the main brand under the Luba Corporation. The company offers several cigars blends that can satisfy anyone from the novice to experienced cigar enthusiast.

The company was founded by Ruth Elizabeth Batista. Batista was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and grew up around the tobacco industry. Her family was in the tobacco business for many years and as a child she would help out in the factory. She eventually started out in public relations for several cigar companies she continued to learn the cigar business. A few years ago, she spearheaded the launch of Luba Corporation.

Capadura Cigars offers three cigar lines:

  • 808 Series: An Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapped cigar described as mild to medium.  This is positioned more for the novice and occasional cigar enthusiasts.
  • 848 Series: This is medium-bodied smoke meant more as an everyday smoke.  This was described to me as a mixed filler, value-priced cigar. This cigar features a Nicaraguan Havana 2000 wrapper.
  • 898 Series:  This is a full-bodied maduro cigar featuring a Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper and ligero tobaccos from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
  • 898 Series Extra Ligero: This is the same blend as the 898 Series, but it uses a higher priming (Corona leaves) in the filler.  The extra ligero is denoted by an extra line.
While there are two 898 blends in the Capadura product catalog, the 898 Extra Ligero) was only showcased at the trade show.

The company also blends cigars for a company called the Football Cigar.  These are actual Football shaped cigars meant to smoke. The Football Cigar blends are based off the 808 and 898 blends.
