Coming off the successful debut of 2013’s 601 La Bomba Warhead, Espinosa is bringing back the 601 La Bomba Warhead in a new vitola and transformed packaging for 2014.  The company also announced that the Warhead would now become an limited production, annual release.  Dubbed the Warhead II, this cigar will debut at the 2014 IPCPR Trade Show in Las Vegas.

The Warhead II will be a shorter, but thicker ring gauge version of last year’s Warhead as it will measure 5 1/2 x 56.  It will be in a semi-box pressed format with the signature 601 La Bomba pig-tail fuse.

“A Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper will cover binder and filler tobaccos from Nicaragua. Although the Warhead II will have the same strength and flavor profile as the original, the blend was tweaked a bit due to the scarcity of tobacco used in this special release. We are planning on making Warhead an annual release and keeping it limited in production,” said company President Erik Espinosa.

The Warhead II will be packaged in boxes of 10 with a production of 2,000 boxes.  It will once again draw inspiration of themes from the World War II era.  There are some packaging changes to the box and band.  Anthony Jimenez Creative Director for Espinosa Cigars said “We plan on altering the artwork of the packaging for each annual release to give each release its own unique appeal. This year the box is silver and the band has a grey camouflage background.”

Back on Episode 89 of Stogie Geeks on March 20, Erik Espinosa was a guest and indicated there were plans for a Warhead II, however no details had surfaced until now.

The original 601 La Bomba Warhead was our #16 Cigar for 2013.
