Each year, we select cigars and people to be inducted into the Cigar Coop Hall of Fame. For cigars, there are three ways to gain induction: 1) The number one Cigar of the Year for the prior calendar year gains automatic induction; 2) All Cigars assessed “Memorable” at least one year prior to induction are looked at and given consideration; 3) One Wildcard selection. For personnel, we select on industry leader/ambassador and one non-industry ambassador.  Selections are made Columbus Day Weekend each year.

Inductee Year: 2012

Winston Churchill is best known as the Prime Minster of the United Kingdom.  He is considered one of the greatest wartime leaders of all time, most notably for leading Great Britain during the time of World War II.    He is also known for his love and passion of cigars.

Churchill made a visit to Cuba and that’s where he fell in love with cigars.  He would become an avid cigar enthusiast and many images of him are associated with his cigars.  He was a huge fan of Romeo y Julieta cigars.   In today’s world of cigars, there is a vitola, the Churchill that has his name.  The origins of this name can be traced back to Romeo y Julieta where they named a 7 x 47 cigar in his honor.  Today many cigars that are 7 inches in length carry his name.

Churchill would smoke many cigars a day, and he would live to the age of 90.  As a non-industry ambassador, we induct Winston Churchill into the Cigar Coop Hall of Fame in 2012.
