#26: Nestor Miranda Special Selection Danno 2012

Our choice for the #26 Cigar on the 2012 Cigar of the Year Coundown is the Nestor Miranda Special Selection Danno 2012.   This cigar was launched by Miami Cigar and Company at the 2012 IPCPR Trade Show and marked the return of a Danno cigar after a one year hiatus.

The Nestor Miranda Special Selection Danno 2012 marks the fourth consecutive year that Miami Cigar and Company has placed a cigar on the countdown.  It also marks the third time in four years the Nestor Miranda line has appeared on the countdown.  If we are also keeping score, this is the third cigar on this year’s countdown to come out of the My Father Cigars factory in Nicaragua.

The name “Danno” is a tribute to Miami Cigar and Company president Nestor Miranda’s late son Danny.  Each year the Danno has come in a different blend in a 7 x 56 Double Corona – and this year’s Danno is no exception.   For the Danno 2012, this marks the first time a San Andres Maduro wrapper has been used in the series.

While I’ve been critical of the San Andres Maduro as a wrapper, the Danno 2012 proves me wrong.  My complaint on this wrapper has been is that it is often overwhelms and makes for a less complex smoke.  The Danno 2012 offers a lot of nuances and transitions.  It provided me notes of mocha, chocolate, pepper, cream, earth, and citrus.  The notes are robust and full-bodied.  The cigar also provides some pop as it is medium to full in strength.  Construction is top-notch – producing a great burn and providing an outstanding draw.
