For the third consecutive year, General Cigar’s Cohiba brand will be releasing its Cohiba Edicion Diamante blend. This year’s addition includes an all-new “A” size vitola as well as a release of the 6 x 60 Gigante frontmark. These new frontmarks were showcased at the 2013 IPCPR Trade Show in Las Vegas.

The Cohiba Edicion Diamonte line made its debut at the 2011 IPCPR Trade Show. For that year, the brand a special chest humidor aimed for serious cigar collectors. The humidor contained what was a new blend called the Cohiba Edicion Diamante. This offering was geared at serious cigar collectors. In addition to coming in the humidor, the cigar itself featured a rare Cameroon wrapper that had been aging since 1980. The Cohiba Edicion Diamante chest humidor came with six different vitolas of 25 cigars each. With only 100 humidors produced and each humidor carrying an SRP of $4,125.00, this was a cigar that would truly be a difficult one to obtain.

In 2012, the Cohiba Edicion Diamonte would return as the Robusto and Toro frontmarks were released.  For this release, the cigars were more readily available as they were packaged in coffin boxes (Robusto) and glass tubes (Toro)

For 2013, Cohiba is introducing an all new vitola into the series.  This vitola will be a Churchill-size “A” frontmark measuring 8 1/4 x 49.  The cigar will be packaged in an individual wooden tube.

The 6 x 60 Gigante will be returning for 2013.  This was one of the sizes that was made available in the 2011 Humidor release.  These cigars will be packaged in individual wood coffins.

Both the Cohiba Edicion Diamante “A” and Gigante are scheduled for an August, 2013 release. Allocation number have not been published although from the packaging of the Gigante vitola it appears that 2013 boxes (numbered) of ten cigars are being produced.

The Cohiba Edicion Diamonte 2012 Robusto scored a 91 on Cigar Coop back in October, 2012.

Blend Profile

As mentioned, the blend for the Cohiba Edicion Diamante 2012 is the same as last years. The highlight is the rare Cameroon wrapper from 1980.  In last years’s press release for the Cohiba Edicion Diamante says about this wrapper: “Enrobed in a precious Cameroon wrapper tobacco from the 1980 crop, Cohiba Edicion Diamante boasts one of the most extraordinary leaves ever cultivated. In the past three decades since this outstanding tobacco was harvested, these rarified leaves have been nurtured and masterfully handcrafted.
